If you don’t know by now, London is on my list of top three favorite cities in the world. So, you can understand why a perfect weekend in London is worth sharing time and again! When our friends from Toronto asked us to join them for the weekend we did not hesitate. Who wouldn’t want to spend more time in such a beautiful city with so many incredible restaurants?
We arrived Friday evening and headed straight for dinner luggage in hand. We were in the mood for steak so we opted for Goodman Canary Warf. There are three locations and if you are in the mood for a casual steakhouse this is a great option.
St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel
After dinner, we hopped in a cab and headed for our hotel; The St. Pancras Renaissance London. It was our first time staying in St Pancras and it will most likely be our last. It’s no Mayfair! The hotel is very impressive from the exterior but it pretty much ends there. You can check out my full review of The St. Pancras Renaissance London here.
The next morning, we had a little time to spare before our friends arrived so we decided to do a little shopping. I dread shopping for swimsuits and I find it frustrating when you don’t have a large selection to chose from. Our first stop was Selfridges on Oxford Street and I landed on a great sales lady who patiently helped me through this agonizing process. If you’re looking for swimwear I highly recommend this department store, the selection is great! You’ll find brands like Heidi Klein, Jets by Jessika Allen, Lisa Marie Fernandez, Mara Hoffman, Vix, Melissa Odabash and much more! After a depressing two hours in a poorly lit changing room which made matters worse I made it out of there with two swimsuits and beachwear. If you're bottom heavy and looking for faltering swimwear, check out the pieces below!
Afternoon Tea at Seven Park Place by William Drabble
Of course, the best thing to do after shopping for swimsuits is to stuff your face with cake! The Chieff diet starts Monday and ends Friday before noon. The St. James's Hotel & Club offers a board game afternoon tea concept called “It’s all in the game”. The setting in the Club Lounge is cozy and very comfortable for enjoying tea, scones, sandwiches and plenty of desserts.
The London Eye
We took a stroll towards The House of Parliament to see The Big Ben before heading over to the London Eye. The London Eye is an easy 30-minute walk from the St. James Hotel where we had afternoon tea. We needed to walk off the scones and the weather was beautiful so nobody objected. This was my third time on the London Eye but the view of the city never gets old; absolutely worth it!
Sexy Fish Restaurant
London never disappoints when it comes to great Japanese restaurants and Sexy Fish is worth a visit. The resident DJ played some great tunes as we enjoyed a fabulous meal in our cozy high banquette table. Their cocktail menu is in the format of a magazine and is impressive; they boast the largest collection of Japanese whiskey on offer. The food was delicious and the décor is mesmerizing. We ended our night at Mahiki because that’s what happens when you’re a few drinks in and you don’t want the night to end!
Duck and Waffle
The best way to nurse a hangover is a fabulous brunch and another cocktail! Duck and Waffle is in London City on the 40th floor of 110 Bishopsgate. Enjoy incredible panoramic views of London while feasting on a delicious brunch, lunch or midnight snack since this place is open 24/7. But! Don’t think just because this place is open around the clock that it’s easy to get a reservation, it’s quite the contrary! We have tried several times to reserve a table and locked one in by reserving a month in advance, so don’t wait for the last minute!
We got lucky with another sunshine filled day so decided to walk to Covent Garden. What a charming area! You’ll find street performers, great shops, restaurants, pubs and much more! This was the perfect way to end another great weekend in London.
